STUDY AND SOLUTION RATIONALE
Mucoadhesion refers to the ability of a material—typically a polymer—to adhere to mucosal surfaces through interfacial interactions, enabling prolonged residence time at the site of application. This mechanism is particularly valuable in drug delivery, where retention and localized action are critical.
IMCD conducted a comprehensive study comparing mono- and binary polymer systems to evaluate mucoadhesive performance across various conditions. The objective was to identify synergistic combinations of excipients that deliver enhanced retention and stability across multiple application areas, including oral, buccal, vaginal, and others.
Our platform is built on a deep understanding of mucosal physiology, including mucus composition, hydrodynamic conditions, and pH variability across different anatomical sites. Excipient selection plays a pivotal role in achieving optimal adhesion, safety, and efficacy.
