Traditionally, liquid dosage forms are used due to the common assumption that children have problems swallowing. Additionally, the use of adult drugs to treat children is a legislative concern, as it may result in an incorrect dose and issues with safety and efficacy. Despite the importance of investigating medicines for children, there is still a demand for paediatric-specific formulations and dosage forms.
This presentation sheds light on the latest regulatory advancements in paediatric drug research, particularly looking at the EU paediatric regulation act that encourages and regulates paediatric medication research. Many formulations and dosage forms can be designed, but little attention has been given to children’s preferences and testing methods. This presentation also looks at the most common denunciators for child-friendly dosage forms and gives suggestions to potentially improve paediatric formulation development.
